Ok, this might be a dumb question but here goes....how do you scan a 12x12 if you don't have a 12x12 scanner?
There are several LO that I would love to submit but can't.
Thanks |

This was the advice I gave to another newbie a while back. Hopefully it'll make sense.
Start by scanning your layout in 2 pieces, as straight as you can get it. You then have to "stictch" the two pieces together using scanner or photo software. I use Photoshop Elements. There's a function called "create photomerge" where you go pick the 2 pieces wherever you saved them and then the program does all the stitching work for you. The straighter your 2 pieces, the less shadowy your stitching will be. So if necessary, straighten your 2 pieces and save them again and then do the stitching. Once you get used to it and if you find the tiny bit that gets cut off to be annoying, you can then start scanning your 12x12 in 4 pieces and doing the same process. It just takes longer but it's not really harder.
To post your work in our gallery: Save your stitched scan in a specific directory. Open the file and find a way to reduce the image to less than 200k. Personally, I use the "save for web" feature in Photoshop Elements and then change the height/width settings until it's small enough. There are other ways though so figure out what works for you. Log on to the gallery. In the upper right corner click on "upload photos". Fill in the form, using the browse feature to go select the file wherever you saved it. When you're done, click "upload/submit". There will be a delay before you see the image on the front page but it should be there in about 5 minutes. Meanwhile you should be able to see it if you click on "my photos" (brings you to your gallery).

There are no dumb questions, Terri!
I do it exactly as Julie does it. You can also take a good picture of your layout, as straight as possible, and then crop any distracting element behind it! HTH!

I love working with PS Elements but if you are simply interested in stitching, you could check your scanner and digital camera boxes. They often come with a software CD and could very well have a feature that would do the trick. But personally, I couldn't live without my PSE. I can't imagine just printing photos right away without doing any fixing up or cropping where needed.

If you do decide to buy it, I found mine at Costco about 1 1/2 years ago...it was cheaper than a lot of other places |
